ANSE DESHAIES 16°18’24N - 61°47’51W

The most beautiful anchorage on the leeward coast
Deshaies is a picturesque fishing village located to the North-West of Basse-Terre. It is famous for its beach in Grande-Anse, considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in Guadeloupe. Less busy than Saint- Anne and Le François, it is home to the most beautiful anchorage on the leeward coast. Around 30 buoys are available out of the 70 in place. This is an easily accessible mooring, even at night, but it’s well worth making sure that your anchor is strong as you sometimes get currents running parallel to the coast and gusty winds coming down off the mountains. A great spot to stop off at as you head north in the West Indies.

You will find an ATM at the post office (La Poste), several restaurants (L’Amer with a terrace ovelooking the anchorage, Le Coin des Pêcheurs, with fresh fish specialties), a bakery, some convenient stores and car rental companies.

Jardin Botanique (Botanical gardens) - accessible on foot from the anchorage, you will enjoy a relaxing walk amongst the surprising West Indies flora.
Habitation Côte Sous-le-Vent, at Pointe Noire - a unique amusement park boasting several attractions; botanical gardens, butterfly world, pirate museum,‘Vélovolants’tree cycling...

ILET PIGEON 16°10’07N - 61°47’27W Famous for its diving spot
Famous for its diving spot, Ilet Pigeon, better known as the Cousteau Reserve, is located opposite Malendure cove, 500m off the leeward coast of Guadeloupe. You can moor your boat at one of the limited yellow buoys. Ideal for diving and snorkeling fans, as well as beach lovers.

At Anse Bouillante: you will find a range of snack-bars on the beach, restaurants (Le Touna and Le Rocher de Malendure worth checking for their shellfish specialties), Carrefour and Leader Price for provisioning, a self-service coin laundry and a pharmacy. Head for one of the many diving clubs (Les Heures Saines, GPE, CIP...) and discover the most beautiful diving spots in Guaeloupe.

ANSE A LA BARQUE 16°14’21N - 61°19’18W Easy access day and night
Anse La Barque is a small anchorage surrounded by palm trees, ideal for cruisers. Considered one of the best shelters on the leeward coast after Deshaies, it is very popular with the locals, which often means visitors have to anchor outside, in 7 to 10 m of water.

MARINA RIVIERE SENS 15°98 N, -61.71 W Between sea and mountain
Located before Basse-Terre, nested at the foot of the Monts Caraibes opposite the Fort Delgrès and the Soufrière volcano, Sud Ancrage Marina is the only place on the leeward coast where you can moor in a port. Yachts with a draft over 2m should be careful (depth is 2.50m) and anchor outside to the south of the breakwater. The anchorage can be rough.

Gaétan the owner, who has also Caraïbe Gréement at Point-à-Pitre, is equipped with a swaging machine for up to 16mm.

In and nearby the marina: a post office with ATM, somewhere to pick up some supplies (8 à Huit, butcher/catering), several restaurants (Le Barracuda), a dive center, a beach and sports facilities. If you need a complete provisioning there is Casino at Basse-Terre.

Fort Delgrès - Accessible on foot from the marina, this Historical Monument classified site overlooks the town of Basse-Terre. Over the years the fort has become the emblem of the Anglo-French battles in the Caribbean and then of the fight against slavery led by the mulatto officer Louis Delgrès.

Bologne Distillery – visit one of the oldest distilleries in Guadeloupe at the foot of the Soufrière volcano, discover how Bologne agricultural rum is made, and enjoy a tasting session at the end of your tour.

MARINA BAS DU FORT 16°13’ N , 61°31’ W Half–way between Martinique and Saint–Martin
An essential port of call for its infrastructure, welcome and lively shore life, the Pointe-à-Pitre harbour, known as the Marina Bas du Fort, is the largest marina in the Lesser Antilles. Accessible by a marked channel, it has 1200 moorings on 23 pontoons, and 50 mooring buoys. Well sheltered from prevailing winds, the marina is close to all services and has a technical area and a boatyard. Anchoring is permitted to the West of the pier, to the north of Ilet à Cochon and the “Carénage”.

Ideally located between Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre, the town welcomes the Route du Rhum every 4 years (next edition 2022).

ILET DU GOSIER 16°11’59N - 61°29’31W Your dream anchorage
Near the Pointe-à-Pitre channel, the Ilet Gosier anchorage is very popular with locals on a Sunday, it is perfect to gently find your sea legs. Protected by a coral reef, this anchorage can be rolly but is safe in the day and night. Easy to access, there is a pontoon to go on land and the view of the Saintes, Marie-Galante and La Soufrière is spectacular.

ANSE DE SAINTE-ANNE 16°13’15N - 61°23’19W Opposite the beautiful Sainte–Anne beach
The access to this anchorage is somewhat delicate. You can anchor to the North-eastern tip or opposite the small fishing harbour, accessible only by dinghy. Mooring is also allowed to the East, in front of Club Med at Caravelle beach.

SAINT-FRANÇOIS 16°15’2N - 61°15’7W
A good shelter, protected by the coral reef barrier
Located to the East of Guadeloupe, the small seaside resort in Saint François is next to one of the most beautiful lagoons in Guadeloupe, and has two anchorages: one area near the village and the fishing harbour and one recently renovated marina, with 120 moorings, including 20 for visitors. Its advantages? The restaurants, shops, international golf course and beaches.

MARIE-GALANTE 15°55N - 61°15W A land of rum,traditions,heritage
Round and low, Marie-Galante is known as the “great pancake” or the “Island with one hundred mills”, and is loved for its tranquillity and the beauty of its shores. The anchorages are to the leeward of the islands.

The most beautiful anchorage in Marie-Galante, to the North-West of the island, is popular with cruisers, who come for the white sandy beach and turquoise sea.

A pretty fishing village, Saint-Louis bay is a great alternative to the Anse Canot if there is a swell. Be careful of lobster pots.

Grand Bourg has a basin for cruisers with some serviced pontoons. On shore, you can quickly walk around the village and make detour past the Mairie. Ideal to stock up on essentials and taste local specialities.

LES SAINTES 15° 53’N - 61°35’W
One of the most beautiful bays in the world
