All but one of the vessels anchored in the harbor sank in the tidal wave that followed the eruption.

In order to protect the 9 ship wrecks sunk following the 1902 volcanic eruption, 3 yellow buoys and the head of the jetty mark a «no anchor zone». Within this area, 4 white moorings only for use of dive boats. An organized mooring area will open beginning of 2024 with 130 eco-friendly connected buoys in 3 separate zones along the bay of Saint-Pierre. A mooring fee is applied.
