ANSE DESHAIES

A picturesque anchorage on the leeward coast

Anchorages

Deshaies is a picturesque fishing village located to the north west of Basse-Terre. The bay was once used by privateers who dropped anchor here to stock up on fresh water. Anchor somewhere in the middle of the bay. This is an easily accessible mooring, even at night, but make sure your anchor is strong as you sometimes get currents running parallel to the coast and strong winds coming from the town down off the mountains. A great spot to stop off at as you head North.

Le Jardin Botanique , at walking distance from the anchorage - Enjoy a relaxing stroll in the botanic garden and discover hundreds of tropical species and animals such as the pink flamingos.

Grande-Anse beach , one of the most beautiful beaches in Guadeloupe, with caramel-colored sand and lined with coconut trees and grape trees.

PIGEON ISLANDS

The best diving spot in Guadeloupe

Surrounding the Pigeon Islands, the Cousteau Reserve is a protected underwater park with coral reefs, lots of colorful fish, sponges, sea turtles and other sea creatures. The area has a few yellow park mooring buoys you can tie to when you dive or snorkel. You can anchor in the bay, opposite Pigeon Islands, at Plage de Malendure (avoid when swell).

The Guadeloupe Zoo , located in the Mammels park in Bouillante, is home to hundreds of animal species from South America and the Caribbean, including jaguars, monkeys, colorful parrots…

ANSE A LA BARQUE

Easy access day and night

Anse La Barque is a small anchorage surrounded by palm trees, ideal for cruisers. Considered one of the best shelters on the leeward coast after Deshaies, it is very popular with the locals, which often means visitors have to anchor outside, in 7 to 10 m of water.

MARINA DE RIVIERE-SENS

Between sea and mountain

Anchorages

South of Basse-Terre, surrounded by mountains, Marina Sud Ancrage is the only place on the leeward coast where you can berth in a marina. Yachts with a draft over 2m should be careful (depth is 2.50m) and anchor south of the marina. The anchorage can be rough.

Antilles Yachting Services (05 90 94 54 86) - Opposite the marina, this complete shipchandler offers all you need in chandlery, electrical, electronics, paints and maintenance products, fishing gear and is equipped with a swaging machine for up to 16mm.

SHOPS AND SERVICES

There is a post office with an ATM, many stores to provision (a 8 à Huit supermarket, a butcher’s, a grocery store, a bakery), a dive center, a beach, a fitness trail. If you need a complete provisioning, there is a big supermarket Super U in Basse-Terre.

Fort Delgrès - At walking distance from the marina, this Historical Monument has stunning views of the surrounding town of Basse-Terre and the ocean.

The Bologne Distillery - Visit one of the oldest rum distilleries in Guadeloupe (check Rum in Guadeloupe section).

Tropic Marine / Big Ship Jarry (05 90 38 00 25) specializes in epoxy and other resins, antifouling, painting. They sell also electronics, kayaks, SUP.

MARINA BAS-DU-FORT AND SURROUNDINGS

Half-way between Martinique and Saint-Martin

Anchorages

Marina Bas-du-Fort is located in a unique setting in Pointe-à-Pitre at the center of the island, a 30-minute walk to town center, a 10-minute drive to the international airport, close to the finest Caribbean beaches and most beautiful tourist sites.
The entrance channel is well marked by buoys and beacons. The Marina Bas-du-Fort is a well-protected full service marina with 1150 berths on 23 docks, 60 mooring buoys and a shipyard. You can anchor outside the marina, to the west at Pointe Fouillole, to the north of Ilet à Cochon and at the Carénage.

Most of the yacht services are found at the marina, the shipyard, the adjacent compound «Porte de la Marina» and the carenage.

Caraïbes Docks Services (06 90 61 78 25) - Located near the marina, this boatyard offers quality haul-out, repair and maintenance services. With two dry docks, a launching cradle and a lift crane, Igor and his team can haul boats up to 24 metres (82 ft) and 8.80 m (29ft) wide. Services offered include antifouling, hull repairs, saildrive oil changes, polishing.

Gréement Marine Services (06 90 58 18 04) - Jean-Paul and his team can help with any job to do with your mast, rigging and deck hardware. The GMS large workshop is located in the technical area and benefits from being in close proximity to the yachts and other marine professionals, ensuring a quick response to your needs.

MC2 Sail Design / La Voilerie (06 90 33 89 45) - With a sail loft at the marina opposite dock 8, Marc is a sail designer and fabricator for yachts up to 60 ft. He has also a canvas workshop opposite dock 9 for all kinds of canvas work (biminis, covers, dodgers…).

Nitrogen (05 90 90 78 26) offers a wide range of diving and spearfishing items from the biggest brands as well as a range of high quality professional services such as equipment hire, after sales service and repair of your diving and spearfishing equipment, not forgetting inflating, servicing and repurposing your diving cylinders.

Mécanique Marine (05 90 90 70 51) - Benjamin and his team, diesel engine specialists and dealer for Cummins, Onan, Lombardini et Nanni in Guadeloupe, will advise you when fitting a new engine and will carry out repairs after troubleshooting issues, as well as providing ongoing regular servicing. Ideally located between Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre, Pointe-à-Pitre welcomes the Route du Rhum every 4 years (next edition 2022).

ILET GOSIER

Your dream anchorage

Anchorages

Near the Pointe-à-Pitre channel, Ilet Gosier is a very popular anchorage especially with locals on Sundays. Protected by a coral reef, this anchorage can be rolly but is safe in the day and night. Easy to access, there is a pontoon to go on land and the view of the Saintes, Marie-Galante and La Soufrière is spectacular.

SAINTE-ANNE

Enjoy the beautiful view of Sainte-Anne beach

The access to this anchorage is somewhat delicate. You can anchor to the North-eastern tip or opposite the small fishing harbour, accessible only by dinghy. Mooring is also allowed to the East, in front of Club Med at Caravelle beach.

SAINT-FRANÇOIS

A good shelter, protected by the coral reef barrier

Anchorages

Located to the East of Guadeloupe, Saint-François is a fashionable tourist resort area located next to one of the most beautiful lagoons in Guadeloupe.

YACHT SERVICES

Saint-François has two anchorages: at the fishing and ferry harbour in front of the town, and outside off the yacht marina. The recently renovated marina has 120 berths of which, 20 for visitors.

MARIE-GALANTE

A land of rum, traditions, heritage

Round and low, Marie-Galante is known as the “great pancake” or the “Island with one hundred mills”, and is loved for its tranquility and the beauty of its shores. The anchorages are to the leeward of the islands.

ANSE CANOT
The most beautiful anchorage in Marie-Galante, to the North-West of the island, is popular with cruisers, who come for the white sandy beach and turquoise sea.

SAINT-LOUIS
A pretty fishing village, Saint-Louis bay is a great alternative to the Anse Canot if there is a swell. Be careful of lobster pots.

Grand Bourg is the main town in Marie-Galante and has a small harbor where you can either anchor or use the docks.

LES SAINTES

One of the most beautiful bays in the world

Les Saintes archipelago, a magical place extending over a turquoise sea in south-western Guadeloupe, is made up of two main islands Terre-de-Haut and Terre-de-Bas and six uninhabited islets. Les Saintes is an essential stopping point for boaters with numerous places to anchor, opposite the small town of Terre-de-Haut, at Pain de Sucre or in front of Ilet Cabrit.

1 Ti Bo Doudou (05 90 98 56 67) - An exceptional setting by the water with a breath-taking view of the mooring area, gourmet Creole cuisine based on fresh produce and fish given pride of place… You really have found the beach restaurant par excellence!

La Saladerie (06 90 55 01 64) - At Anse Mire, below the road leading to the Fort Napoleon, Patrice welcomes foodie boaters to his seaside restaurant, offering one of the most beautiful views of the mooring area. His specialties include fresh fish and wonderful salads. It has its own dinghy dock.

Ti Kaz’La (05 90 99 57 63) - Boaters with a penchant for gourmet cuisine will love this seaside restaurant with its beautiful dining room opening onto the sea. Enjoy refined French cuisine, influenced by seafood, vegetables and spices from the islands. A real treat for your eyes and taste buds!

Robbe Steack (05 90 98 48 24) - This small store is very popular with yachties and has a nice selection of deli, fresh meat, cold cuts, cheese (vacuum-packed upon request), wines. You can also have lunch on their terrace.

Rent a scooter or an e-car and discover the picturesque small town of Terre-de-Haut.

Le Fort Napoléon (06 90 61 01 51) - Situated at an altitude of 114 m, around twenty minutes’ walk from the jetty, the Vauban-style fortress (a listed Historic Monument), surrounded by an unfilled moat, offers a breath-taking view of the Bay of the Saintes. Check out: the museum and its exotic garden with giant cacti.
